The cross country team travelled to the Grand Island Northwest invite for the first meet of the season Friday, August 28.

GINW Meet Boys Results
The boys and girls teams both separately placed fifth overall. Two medalists emerged among the Jeffs: Erica Mosher ’21 (10th) and Ethan Smith ’22 (9th). The GINW meet was held after a little-less-than-a-month’s worth of conditioning and practice with a scrimmage having taken place a week prior.
“I know the team has progressed well in the past few weeks,” Mosher said of the workload thus far. “I’m excited to see our results at the upcoming meets.”

These meets and practices have not been left untouched by the Covid-19 pandemic. Though cross country is one of the least restricted fall sports, athletes are still required to wear a mask whenever they are not running or in the process of catching their breath. The runners have also faced other changes.
“There are just some minor things that don’t affect us too much on a daily basis,” Riley Wood ’21 said of the new health guidelines. “I think that so far the practices have been fairly easy, but it’s also still pretty early in the season so that’s to be expected. I think the switch from [Former Head Coach Kristi] Peterson to [Head Coach Drew] Stone has brought a lot of changes to the team, and so our practices are different from years past, but they are really helping our team improve.”
