Jeffs Journalism took home 19 medals from the State Journalism competition at Northeast Community College in Norfolk on Tuesday, April 23.

Seven girls traveled to Norfolk, all of the girls competed in individual events on Tuesday except two. At the end of all competitions, the Jeffs brought home 4th place as a school.
Senior, Nichole Harris received two 1st place medals, one in Newspaper Layout, the next in Photo Artistic Illustration. Another senior, Joy Ondrak, received first place in Yearbook Layout. Sophomore, Brynn Novotny also earned a lot of points for the team, with two 2nd place finishes, one in Newspaper Column Writing and News/Feature Photography.

“It felt incredible to know that some of the hard work I’ve put in got the recognition that I believe it deserved,” Harris said.
“I was honestly really surprised to receive first,” Ondrak said. “We work hard all year on yearbook and to make sure things are perfect so it’s nice when that work gets recognized.”
“I wasn’t really sure what to expect coming into it and I didn’t expect to do well,” Novotny said. “But am really happy things turned out the way they did.”
