Fairbury Boys Basketball claimed a 46-26 victory over Schuyler on Friday, February 8. This non-conference win marked the second-to-last regular season home game for the Jeffs.

Leading the way in scoring was Isaac Robertson ’19 (12), Dalton Petersen ’20 (7), Chance Amundson ’20 (6), and Zane Grizzle ’22 (5). The Jeffs had 8 three-point baskets to account for more than half of the team’s 46 points. Jacob Martin ’22, who saw his first varsity minutes on Friday, noticed this success.
“Something I thought we did well was shooting the ball,” Martin said. “We need to improve on getting into the paint more often.”
Along with Martin, other junior varsity players on both sides had the opportunity to gain more experience. A 20-point margin allows usual competitors to rest while they cheer on their teammates. Zane Grizzle ’22 discussed this situation.

“Honestly, the only difference from playing against upperclassmen to underclassmen is just how much stronger they are,” Grizzle said. “I couldn’t really tell much of a difference.”
The Jeffs will start looking ahead to subdistrict play as their regular season starts winding down. The team’s current 5-5 record against district opponents provides material to study and learn from in order to go far in the postseason.

“I am looking forward to the competition the subdistricts will bring,” Grizzle said.
The Jeffs are back in action when they take on Falls City at home on Friday, February 15.
